As a professional development program, ArtWell offers workshops geared towards trauma-informed teaching practice and healing-centered engagement.
By working with arts education and wellness focused organizations, our workshops expand knowledge related to work environment and best practices for incorporating the arts into lesson plans and class or organization culture.

Poetry as Perspective: On Teaching Poetry to Non-Poets is a discussion-based poetry workshop tailored for non-poets, artists and aspiring artists alike. Within this 90m workshop, participants will arrive at a new understanding of poetics through reflection and two short (non-writer friendly) journal exercises. Participants will be challenged to think of poetry beyond the written word and be guided into a view of poetry as a secret code that connects all life and artistic expressions together.

This workshop introduces concepts, strategies, and language for teaching consensus-based decision-making in the classroom. This collaborative group process can be integrated into any curricula to support teaching artists in fostering a democratic classroom and better manage conflict between students. There will be time in this workshop for teaching artists to modify the language and scaffolding to better suit their age group, population, and artistic practice. Teaching artists are highly encouraged to bring one of their curriculums for workshopping and discussion.

In honor of African storytellers, an exploration that connects our past, present, and future narratives through writing, crafting, engaging with nature, and conversation. This workshop supports folks with getting unstuck toward their future story of what is possible by processing grief, connecting deeply emotionally, increasing empathy for others, practicing vulnerability and creativity, and promoting community in their environment.
